The NRP Group Receives NAHB's Development Firm of the Year Award
March 19, 2009 - The NRP Group, an Ohio-based firm, has been named the Multifamily Development Firm of the Year by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
"Since its founding in 1995, The NRP Group has been an industry leader in property management, affordable housing, and community outreach," said Steve Patterson, CEO of ZOM USA, and chairman of NAHB's Multifamily Leadership Board. "The firm's accomplishments reflect internal innovation strategies as well sound fiscal policies."
The award, which is sponsored by Time Warner Cable, is one of the highest honors in NAHB's prestigious Pillars of the Industry Awards program, which annually recognizes excellence in multifamily housing development, design, marketing and management. David Heller, CEO of The NRP Group, accepted the award in San Diego at a gala celebration hosted by NAHB in conjunction with its annual conference for top-level apartment and condo developers.
This year's Pillars judges were impressed by the community involvement, management expertise and commitment to affordable housing. NRP's commitment is exemplified through a track record of joint venture projects with public housing authorities to provided safe, affordable housing across the nation. The company's partnership with the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) on three affordable housing developments produced more than 1,352 units in San Antonio alone in 2008. By the end of 2008, NRP managed more than 50 properties, representing 6,000 market rate, tax credit, and senior apartment properties in ten states.
During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, NRP reached out to the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to identify available multifamily community rental units for victims. Funding was approved for both affordable and market-rate multifamily housing in what is now the Beechgrove Subdivision just outside New Orleans. NRP was the first affordable developer to complete a project of this kind. And NRP has continued to grow, even in the current economy, more than doubling its employee base in the past three years.
